Chesapeake Supply and Equipment has a long
history in the heavy-equipment industry and a
recognized tradition for hard work. This is
reflected by the widely known story of how every
owner since the company’s incorporation in 1936
started out in the field as a regular foot soldier
later becoming either a single or part owner of the
company.
Currently the company has three co-owners,
including John Eggers, Henry "John" Bauer Jr. and
Russ Youngman.
Chesapeake Supply & Equipment is truly a family
oriented company. Not only are the three current
owners great personal friends, but the company has
strong family ties as well.
The Douglas
Eggers Story
Douglas Boyd
Eggers (Doug), former owner of the company and
former Baltimore Colts linebacker, turned the
business over to his son, John Eggers, after
retiring in 1978. However, encompassing the work
ethic of most Chesapeake employees, most days, Doug
Eggers still arrives at the office at 7AM and works
until mid-afternoon.
Doug Eggers played linebacker for four seasons
with the 1958 championship team Baltimore Colts,
before spending his last professional season with
the Chicago Cardinals. Today, Doug Eggers lives in
Savage, MD, and is retired from the NFL but stays
in touch with his NFL friends. Each year, together
with his brother Wagner Eggers, Doug plans a
pheasant hunt trip to South Dakota with several of
his former Colts teammates. The tradition was
established in 1967, when everyone was finished with
football, and has continued for the past 35 years or
so.
Recently, Doug Eggers presented his old football
contracts, to the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum in
Baltimore.
